Abstract<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The loss of cultural heritage due to environmental change is an urgent socio-ecological issue affecting Indigenous communities. This project focuses on Quechua communities in the Andes, where Indigenous languages and cultural practices are increasingly threatened by environmental degradation. Large-scale industrial activities are driving illegal deforestation linked to eucalyptus plantations. As forests are degraded, essential natural resources decline, forcing communities to migrate to urban areas, which contributes to the erosion of language as a key element of cultural heritage. Illegal logging is also a concern for local governments, which are experiencing economic losses associated with uncontrolled industrial plantations. Although stakeholders share common objectives, their coordination is hindered by a significant communication gap that this project aims to address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To bridge this gap, we develop a web-based platform with two main outputs: an interactive alert map of areas under environmental pressure and a forum system for exchanging solutions and strategies. The alert map visualises environmental risk levels and supports timely intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system is built using Global Forest Watch data and integrates key environmental indicators that represent ecological stress and cultural vulnerability, including soil moisture (ERA5-Land from C3S-Copernicus Climate Change Service), vegetation metrics such as Leaf Area Index and Fraction of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (CLMS-Copernicus Land Monitoring Service), temperature anomalies (C3S), precipitation anomalies, and carbon monoxide concentrations (CAMS). These variables capture changes in water availability, vegetation health, air quality, and climate stability associated with land-use change. Using a participatory approach, we also aim to integrate citizen-generated data as an early warning mechanism, including a dedicated reporting page within the web platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum component establishes a communication network connecting citizens, NGOs, and public authorities in Peru, improving coordination in response to illegal deforestation. Final users include governmental environmental agencies and organisations such as the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law. The platform also facilitates knowledge exchange among communities facing similar risks, promoting shared learning and collective adaptation strategies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
